A song in exchange for some bread, cheese and ale
But in times such as these we’re forbidden to visit
So we welcome you humbly to our Virtual Wassail
We have not travelled far - in fact, just from the kitchen -
And we stand here before you in our living room
In front of a webcam, a mike and a MacBook
And we humbly entreat you - click ‘admit’ on Zoom
Of this year we are weary but let us be cheery
For it soon will be over and gone
So raise up your glasses and drink to the New Year
And we wish you Wassail! each and everyone
There’s a master and mistress sat down on the sofa
In fact, there are dozens stacked neatly in rows
We hope that your Apples continues to prosper
And likewise your PCs, iPads and smartphones
Of this year we are weary but let us be cheery
For it soon will be over and gone

So look forward with hope to the twelvemonth that’s coming
And away with this festering boil of a year
For the fire is burning and the world is still turning
And despite all its efforts we’re still bloody here
