A beautiful and haunting carol from poet Bruce Blunt (1899-1957) and composer Peter Warlock (1894-1930). Bethlehem Down was composed for entry into the Daily Telegraph’s annual Christmas carol competition in 1927 and won, providing its hard-up and hard-drinking creators with a cash prize. In Warlock’s words, the money was spent on an ‘immortal carouse’ that Christmas Eve…

Bethlehem Down is full of the starlight
